Gaining weight in perimenopause? Learn more with a Roseville hormone consult.

Gaining weight in perimenopause? Learn more with a Roseville hormone consult.

Many women reach their 40s or 50s and say the same thing: “I have not changed much, but my body has.” The honest answer is that midlife weight change is rarely caused by one hormone or one habit. Aging, declining muscle mass, sleep disruption, stress, activity, nutrition, and the menopause transition can overlap.

The Menopause Society notes that aging is the primary driver of midlife weight gain, while menopause can play an important role in redistributing fat toward the abdomen. That distinction matters. It means the answer is not simply “balance your hormones,” and it is not “try harder” either.

Muscle is one of the most important numbers to protect. Adults tend to lose muscle with age, and lower muscle mass can reduce strength, function, and energy needs. At NP Empowered Wellness, an InBody body composition scan and grip-strength test help establish a baseline that the scale cannot provide.

Sleep belongs in the assessment too. Hot flashes, night sweats, anxiety, and changing sleep patterns can affect appetite, recovery, activity, and quality of life. Hormone therapy may be appropriate for certain menopause symptoms after reviewing symptoms, history, risks, and goals. It is not a weight-loss medication and it is not right for everyone.

A thorough evaluation may include your menstrual pattern, hot flashes, sleep, mood, energy, medications, nutrition, activity, medical history, and selected labs when clinically useful. Treatment may involve lifestyle support, menopause symptom treatment, medical weight management when appropriate, or a combination—but the order should be personal.

If your weight, energy, and hormones all feel off, you do not need to choose the solution first. Book a 60-minute hormone consult with NP Sarah in Roseville or by telehealth across California. We will start with what you notice and build the next layer from there.
